It's not often that I sit down in front of a camera but in this video I talk about the difference between movies, film, and cinema.
In summary, I believe the fundamental difference between something that is cinema or not is the degree to which our perspective is shifted as a result of watching a film.
Genre, aesthetics, pacing. B&W vs colour, film or digital...none of this is important. Nor the story for that matter but what is important is that the person watching the film has somehow evolved as a result.
This leaves the door open for almost any film to be regarded as "cinema" and I am more than happy for that to be the case.
Hit play is see/hear the rest.
